General information

Round Table was originally established by Louis Marchesi in Norwich RT No1 in 1927. Carmarthen Round Table No.80 was established in 1934 and is celebrating its 80th Charter this year.

RT is a non political non religious organisation for young businessmen between the ages of 18 and 45

The club's motto is to Adopt, Adapt and Improve

The Aims and Objects are:

1. To develop the acquaintance of young men through the medium of their various occupations.
2. To emphasise the fact that one's calling offers an excellent medium of service to the community.
3. To cultivate the highest ideals in business, professional and civic traditions
4. To recognise the worthiness of legitimate occupations and to dignify each his own by precept and example.
5. To further the establishment of peace and good will through international relations
6. To further these objects by lectures, meetings, discussions and other activities.

Round Table is split into three sections - Individual Tables (Carmarthen) - which form part of Areas throughout the UK (we are Area 43) - and National. There are Officers at all three levels.
The Chairman, Hon. Secretary, and Hon. Treasurer are the three main active officers.

Other positions are:
Charity and Fund Raising Officer,
Community Service Officer
Media Officer,
Sports and Social Officer,
International Relations Officer,
Area and National Delegates, and
Membership and Development Officer

Honorary Members are invited to the post due to being 'too old' (over 45) and having made outstanding contributions as 'active members' (18-45)

Membership is available for young men between 18 and 45

There is an annual membership fee {Capitation}(around £120.00) which is free to those under 25.
Additionally there's the monthly dinner fees (around £15.00)

Carmarthen Round Table meet twice every month:

The 2nd Monday is a business meeting (dress code informal);

The 4th Monday is a dinner meeting with a guest speaker (dress code business suit);

Meetings are usually held at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen at 7.30 p.m.

Formal (Black Tie) events include the Hand over dinner in April, and the Fireworks Ball late November.

The 1st Saturday in december is reserved for the internationally acclaimed and now legendary Christmas Lunch which starts at 12.30 at the Ivy Bush.

Community Service and Charitable activity is the main thrust of the club and this is illustrated very clearly with the annual Fireworks display on November 5th which sees some 7000 people pass through the park gates to enjoy the fun fair, and the best fireworks display in Wales.

Funds raised are in the region of £20,000.00 which are distributed to charitable and worthwhile causes in Carmarthen. Money raised in Carmarthen is kept and distributed exclusively within the community.

We also visit the Hospital at Christmas time to make sure that kids hospitalised over the festive period (as well as family and staff) are not forgotten.

A Table year runs from 1st April to 31st March.

This Table year (2014/15) Carmarthen celebrates its 80th anniversary, and will host a special 80th Charter Dinner held on 24th January 2015 - all previous Carmarthen Tablers are invited to attend and rekindled their fellowship.

Once you get to 45 you retire from 'active duty' and join the Ex-Tablers Association called 41 Club.
